Employer FAQ

What is a Co-op/Internship?

A co-op or internship (terms used interchangeably at Cal Poly) involves short-term employment for underclass students – usually sophomores and juniors – for the purpose of increasing the student's real-world preparation for full-time employment. It also gives the employer a chance to learn more about a particular student as a future employee, while giving the company a little temporary help. Most internships last 3 months, though shorter and longer timeframes are possible. Internships usually pay $15-17 per hour so that the student can afford to complete the co-op while covering basic living expenses.

What About Parking?

Your Career Day fee includes a parking permit. Please allow time for obtaining the permit from the kiosk (instructions and tips will be emailed approximately a week prior to the event). Your permit will allow you to park in "sponsored guest” or regular staff spaces only.

There is metered parking available outside the GrC building which is not covered by any permit; you must pay the meter if you use these spaces. Please do not park in other spots as tickets are given, and we have no power to have those reversed. Additional information can be accessed from: https://afd.calpoly.edu/parking/

How much is it to participate in a GrC Career Day?

  • Single Career Day - $350

  • Two Career Days - $650

  • Three Career Days - $900

Register and pay the Career Day fee via the PayPal link on the registration form. If payment with a check is preferred, an invoice will be provided after the registration form is submitted.

Your fee includes parking, table and chairs, an interview room, continental breakfast, and lunch. You may pay by PayPal, or by check mailed to the department.
