Mat Pica Pi (MPP)
Mat Pica Pi is the social/service club of the Graphic Communication department at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. While the club routinely takes care of department events (WOW Week, Printing Week, Open House, etc.), we also provide club-specific events, such as BBQs, sporting events, movie nights and GrC banquets. Overall, Mat Pica Pi tries to increase the camaraderie of the department, as well as enhance school spirit.
Weekly Meetings
The group meets every other Thursday at 11 (UU Hour) in Building 26 room 204.
What does Mat Pica Pi mean?
In effect, the terms "Mat," "Pica," and "Pi" originated from old typesetting terms, which tells you something about the origins of the club.
- Mat, n. Short for matrix. A mold from which a relief surface (as a piece of type) is made.
- Pica, n. A unit of about 1/6 inch used in measuring typographic material.
- Pi, n. A mass of type confusedly mixed or unsorted.
