Brett Itaya

Brett graduated from Cal Poly with a degree in Graphic Communication concentrating in Design Reproduction Technology in 2013. He is currently working at Square as an Interactive Designer. In the past, Brett has been on teams at Good Eggs, iCracked, Apple, and Evernote.

Eliot Mestre

Eliot Mestre is a Software Test Automation Manager at MINDBODY, Inc. He is responsible for managing MINDBODY’s team of student engineering interns, as well as leading the test automation efforts of the Quality Assurance team. Eliot has helped create an internship program for students to be able to be integrated with a professional software engineering team, and gain invaluable experience which can be applied to their field of studies. These efforts have also led to the creation and expansion of MINDBODY’s Cyber Security team, whose endeavors continuously make the company’s software more robust and secure. In addition, Eliot’s work with test automation have allowed him to expand testing effectiveness within Quality Assurance, and expand the set of tools available to MINBODY to help the company create a great product for its clients.
Eliot holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Evan Ovadia

Evan Ovadia is a Cal Poly alumni who's working for Google, who has also interned at Yahoo and Autodesk. He likes to host Humans vs Zombies games, play Avalon, Starcraft and ADOM. He specializes in programming languages and code architecture. He uses C++, Java, Javascript, plus 11 other languages. One day, he'll rule the world with his trusty robotic sidekick, Indiscriminate Justice.

Jeff Hokit - Judge

Jeff Hokit is User Experience Director forRocket Communications, a design studio based in San Francisco. He is a veteran interaction designer and developer specializing in mobile. Jeff has led the design of dozens of client projects for Silicon Valley startups and giants, and has led the design and development several flagship iOS projects. He and his business partner Silvio recently created Blossom Dress Up, a beautiful children’s game for iOS.

Susan Rice - Judge

With over 15 years of hands-on experience in UX Design, Research and Strategy, Susan leads the UX team at MINDBODY, Inc. Together they are responsible for creating intuitive and delightful experiences based on design thinking methodology.
In her previous role as Senior UX Design Manager at Vistaprint, she drove organizational change through the creation of the UX Center of Excellence from a distributed model to a centralized entity globally. She also has experience as the Manager of Information Architecture at Staples as well as working at a number of start ups.
Susan holds a MS in Human Factors in Information Design from Bentley University and a BA in Psychology from UC Santa Barbara. Susan was the Vice President for UXPA Boston for a number of years. In her spare time she enjoys camping with her family, CrossFit and dancing.

Kevin Weeks

Kevin is a Cal Poly graduate from the Graphic Communication Department. He currently works as a Software Engineer doing frontend web development for Wanclouds, Inc.
He has published a Pluralsight course on Animating AngularJS Applications, and loves to help people learn about programming.
Kevin lives in SLO and still loves it.

Dana Schmit

Always curious, ready for a challenge and asking What's next?, Dana Schmit has grown with technology throughout her career.  She has over 15 years of advertising program management experience in world-class agencies like Chiat/Day, Deutsch, RPA and Saatchi's Team One, managing teams and delivering engagements for top notch brands - Pepsi, Honda/Acura, Nestle, Lexus, Dr Pepper Snapple Group and most recently Samsung. Currently, as Senior Program Manager for Rosetta Marketing (not Rosetta Stone), these are just 2 of the  latest projects she has led and delivered include  837 Washington Content Management Platform:  a backend content management scheduler for automatic playback on a 3-story Branding all and Virtual Reality tunnel in Samsung’s flagship space and  Magna Carta Holy Grail (Cannes Silver Lion Award Winner 2013): Mobile application allowing Samsung owners to download Jay Z’s album Magna Carta Holy Grail before the album was released, making Jay Z’s album platinum before release date, an unprecedented achievement,  and increasing Samsung device sales. 

Kirsten Jacobsen

I graduated from Cal Poly in 2015 with a BFA in Art&Design, concentrating in Graphic Design, and a minor Media Arts & Technologies. I am now a full time Product Designer at TransUnion where I work primarily on the UI/visual design for our website and mobile app. Here to help out the creatives!

Lori Jordan

Lori Jordan is an Executive and Entrepreneur with over 15 years experience in the Digital Media and Distribution space. She is now part of the Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship where she heads up Student Innovation Programs, including the CIE SLO HotHouse Accelerator.

Sam Huskins

Currently a Product Designer at Lyft on the Driver UX team.

Sara Lancaster

Sara is a recent Cal Poly grad, where studied Graphic Communication (concentrating in Web and Digital Media) and played for the Cal Poly Women’s Soccer team. While she was in school, she was a Visual UX Design intern for MINDBODY, and once she graduated in the Fall of 2015 she became full-time UX Designer. Since then, she has been a part of the Mobile UX Design team and has spent her time working on various projects spanning from mobile to web-based projects, participating in research and analysis and collaborating with other awesome designers and developers at MINDBODY. Sara is a Reno native and she she loves to ski, hike, play guitar, and hang out at the beach with her dog.

Scott Brennen

Scott Brennen is a UX Design Manager at MINDBODY. His education includes a BFA in Graphic Design and a Masters of Art in Interactive Design from Eastern Michigan University. Since graduating in 2000 Scott has worked in a variety of design environments from Advertising Agencies, Digital Agencies, Online Training to Product Development, for clients including Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, Ford, American Express, Dominos Pizza, Old Navy, lynda.com and most recently MINDBODY. He currently manages a team of 5 UX Designer at MINDBODY. In his life outside work he enjoys fatherhood, producing electronic music, mt. biking, motorcycles and road trips.

Slater McLean

Slater McLean is an experienced orator and is passionate about entrepreneurship. After attending Draper University, an intensive entrepreneurship program, Slater began working at the Cal Poly Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship(CIE). During his tenure at CIE he has been involved in many events, such as the Elevator Pitch Competition, where he prepared and coached the finalists as well as moderated the event.

Tyler McKay Hall

Tyler Hall is a Cal Poly student and hackathon aficionado. Between mountain dew and no sleep, Tyler has won and placed at several hackathons, including UCSB and National Taiwan University. When not in the classroom or doing homework, Tyler spends time with planes, quadcopters, and home automation. Born to build and trained to code, find Tyler to make something awesome. Max Parelius

Max is a Cal Poly Computer Engineering graduate who now works at Pariveda Solutions. He is currently working and living in San Francisco where he enjoys swimming, surfing and escaping from Alcatraz regularly (Escape from Alcatraz swim race).

Beck Chen

Beck Chen is a consultant manager at Pariveda Solutions. His technical experience includes web development, data visualization, native Android, and cross-platform mobile development with Ionic Framework. Beck is currently working on a visual assortment tool for a major clothing retailer using AngularJS and Spring MVC. Outside of work, Beck likes to travel and explore interesting cities around the world.

Pranav Kalvapalle

Pranav is a front end engineer who enjoys soccer, hiking and river rafting.

Christopher Paul (CP) - Judge

CP has over 23 years of consulting experience.  He has helped clients around the world leverage advanced technology and process improvement to increase business performance.  While his clients have ranged in size from early stage startups to global corporations, Christopher encourages clients of all sizes to focus on the people issues that can have a profound impact on the success or failure of strategic programs. He has helped business and IT leaders explore how recent trends such as cloud, mobile and social will go beyond systems and impact their organizations.

Pat Nieman​ - Judge

Pat Nieman serves as the Senior Vice President of Technology at Consumer Interactive. He brings more than 20 years of experience in consumer web application and  product development. Having held a variety of positions including consulting, sales, and engineering, Pat has helped other businesses reach their potential with their online digital marketing and e-commerce platforms for companies like Cisco, Intel, Adobe, Intuit, and Apple.

Phil Ma

Phil Ma is a UCI alumni who's working for Google. He interned at Google while in school. Some of the things he enjoys playing in his spare time are tennis, ping pong, and Puzzle and Dragons.

Skills: Java, Javascript. Most experience resides in web and android development some machine learning scattered here and there.

Kim Shook

Kim Shook majored in Computer Science at the University of Tennessee. She was a research assistant for three years specializing in High Performance Computing and distributed systems. After graduating she joined Google's Engineering Residency program and is now an android developer. While she uses Android Studio for development, Vim will always have a special place in her heart.
