Biography

Ivan Bradley earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art from Humboldt State University and an M.Ed., in Computers in Education from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Ivan’s favorite part about teaching is sharing what he knows about graphic communication, the design and technical skills. This leads the students to create designs and products that surprise themselves with what they can accomplish.

Ivan brings his design talents, BA in Art, along with passion to develop skills using technology and software, merging the two together in his creative endeavors, as well as teaching. Bradley retired in June 2021 after 30 years as a high school Career Technical Education teacher, recently at Atascadero High School, instructing Graphic Communications, Computer Animation, Video Production, and his favorite course, Portfolio Development that he taught the last three years. The course is a capstone course for the CTE Design, Visual, and Media Arts career pathway at the school. He also has developed the curriculum, assignments, and the structure of several courses that are listed on CTE Online, which is an online depository education resource website. He has been honored as School District Teacher of the Year by two different districts among other honors.

Professional Work

The biggest highlight of his career was being a guest scholar, professor for two weeks for the Northern Melbourne Institute of TAF, in Melbourne, Australia. Ivan worked nearly 20 years in the graphics industry for a commercial printer. For 8 of those years, he wrote and taught graphics courses at the local community college before becoming a full-time high school teacher. Since 2007, he has been an adjunct professor for the Graphic Communication Department.

In addition to teaching at Cal Poly, Ivan has presented at Graph Expo, Print 17, and International Conference for Graphic Communication Educators. Ivan recently published a new edition of his book, “The Graphics of Communication: Exploring the Graphic Arts and Design”! The original ePub is available at Apple Bookstore. The latest version is a 234 page paper-bound printed book and ePub. Both are available from sources such as Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and eBay.

Fun fact, Ivan has run a marathon through the Redwoods of Northern California!
