The Senior Showcase is an opportunity to inspire younger students early on in their GrC experience as to all the career directions that exist. Industry leaders, community members, alumni, friends and family are all invited to attend.

Jacqui Luis

Hi all! I'm Jacqui, a recent GrC grad and UX Designer at GE Digital in San Ramon, working on building a user interface for the Predix software platform.

A personal interest of mine has always been finding new ways to make music festivals more accessible to disabled and handicap guests. My senior project incorporates the printed electronics industry in the form of assistive, particularly haptic, wearable devices to enhance the festival experience for users that have a difficult time navigating and being part of these events.

We came up with the idea of the senior showcase after realizing the lifecycle of our projects. After twenty weeks of extensive researching, creating deliverables, and careful editing, our projects would be reviewed once, graded, and posted to an online library archive. The best case scenario for our hard work would be that it may be read by a stressed senior figuring out the subject of their own thesis.

The senior showcase gives our multifaceted, highly talented, and technically proficient graduating seniors a better chance to share to friends, family, employers, and fellow GrC students the full capability of all we've learned in our college career.

We want our very last project of college to mean something, to be more than just a requirement. Participating in this showcase is a good start, and we hope to see you there.

Hey! I’m Tavin, Co-Founder & CMO of BoltAbout, an electric bicycle startup incubating in San Luis Obispo with plans to expand throughout California in the next few months. When I’m not thinking business strategy, I love thinking about the implications of blending Industrial design and Interaction design, a mix that has recently manifested in the “Internet of Things.”

I have long been interested in the next era of human-computer interaction, where instead of digital devices getting in the way of our physical world, they fade into the background yet enhance our everyday interactions with our world. For my senior project I researched projection mapping, a technology which allows digital-ness to be projected onto everyday objects, turning them into interactive displays. Imagine the rich data we could gather by making mundane, inanimate objects interactive. I hope to continue research at MIT or RISD in the near future.

Jacqui summed up perfectly why this event means so much to us. To add, Cal Poly’s College of Business and Engineering have Multi-disciplinary senior projects, where companies pitch problems to students and then fund groups of business and engineering seniors to develop innovative solutions. I’ve always felt that Graphic Communication would be a perfect addition to this program, as Customer Experience-thinking is oh so crucial no matter what you’re building. I hope this event helps spark such change.

Come and be delighted! Breakfast goodies will be served.
