GRC 320 — Managing Quality in Graphic Communication

Theory and practices of quality management in the graphic communication industry. Quantifying customer expectations, specifications, standard operating procedures, SPC tools, and employee empowerment. Principles of Lean Management, Six Sigma, ISO, and Malcolm Baldrige.

Infographic Student Case Study

The A3 Methodology is used in Lean Six Sigma for improvement and opportunity projects.  Named after the European equivalent of an 11 x 17 sheet of paper, the methodology of solving a problem or finding an opportunity is graphically presented for anyone in the organization to track the teams journey from defining the problem/opportunity to project completion.

GRC 324 — Binding & Finishing Processes

Imposition techniques, cutting, and folding. Stitch, case and perfect binding techniques and applications. Operational and aesthetic uses of die cutting, scoring, creasing, foil stamping and embossing techniques.

GRC 440 — Magazine Design Technology

Students spend an entire quarter honing their skills in page layout, typography, and color reproduction to produce magazine spreads. Their work is printed and compiled into a one-of-a-kind, perfect bound magazine, “Four Forty.” Students also learn what it takes to convert their print layouts into interactive digital media.
