Mission Statement
University Graphic Systems is committed to learning and service. Through shared knowledge and the support of the Graphic Communication Department at Cal Poly, we deliver print, design and web development services that enable our clients to move forward in their business and personal initiatives.
Who We Are
University Graphic Systems (UGS) is a student-managed, student-operated commercial printing and digital imaging enterprise within the Graphic Communication Department of California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo. UGS has been an integral part of the Graphic Communication Department’s educational program since 1968. Recently, UGS has created UGS Print & Copy, a complete retail printing center that provides quick print services on campus. Learn more here at our site.
Leadership
Considering UGS is a student run operation, it only stands that our leadership falls into the hands of the students. Currently UGS has 13 managers of different positions ranging from Bindery to Marketing.
General Manager
Nicole Smith is responsible for the administration of UGS finances including budgets, reports and payroll coordination. The General Manager meets with Cal Poly Corporation Administrators, leads management meetings and maintains relations with the GrC faculty, staff, and advisory board.

Ken Macro is the current advisor of the UGS team.

Our Philosophy
As a student-run company, UGS values continuous learning, constructive self-criticism, continual self-improvement, integrity, relationships, mutual respect, teamwork, openness, clear communication, and personal and company excellence. We appreciate creative design, vibrant color and understand the importance of personal customer service. We place a high value on relationships with our clients and have a passion for print, design and web development. We pride ourselves in accomplishing any challenge and surpassing clients’ expectations. We pursue the opportunity to learn and grow our skills through partnerships with corporate sponsors, the Graphic Communication Department, Cal Poly Corporation, the Cal Poly campus, and the greater San Luis Obispo area.
